Philippine departments launch agri-export helpdesk to boost trade and investment

The Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the Philippines have formed a partnership to enhance agricultural exports and are set to launch an Agri-Export Helpdesk in 2025. "Combining the resources and expertise of both agencies will unlock the full potential of Philippine agriculture," stated DA Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr.

The collaboration between the two departments focuses on increasing trade promotion, investment, and support for small and medium enterprises, along with addressing market access and tariff challenges. The initiative targets major export commodities such as bananas, mangoes, and seaweed, in addition to high-value crops like coffee and cacao.

The Agri-Export Helpdesk will address export-related issues and foster better cooperation between the government and the private sector through commodity councils starting in January. Key private sector participants include the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. and the Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organization Inc. The goal is to position the Philippines as a leader in the global food export market. In September, agricultural exports reached USD492.6 million, accounting for 8 percent of the nation's total exports, as reported by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
