After hoovers, Dyson starts growing strawberries

It is just a short step from household appliances to strawberry production. The creator of the famous bagless hoover, James Dyson, wants to "revolutionize British agriculture" through his company, Dyson Farming, which was founded in 2013 (via a £140 million [170 million USD] investment) and now has 14,570 hectares of farmland.

His latest project is a high-tech farm in Lincolnshire designed to produce 1,250 tons of strawberries a year to supply Britain's supermarkets all year round. To achieve this, he is banking on the technological expertise he has acquired in household appliances: robot pickers, using the latest sensors, will run the 760 meters of the structure (1,456 above-ground rows for 1.225 million strawberry plants) powered by biomethanized electricity.
