Massive 17-pound sweet potato found

Neighbors Carey Byrd and James Hardin in Hampton Roads uncovered a colossal 17.2-pound sweet potato during a late-night harvest before a freeze. The vegetable, almost the size of a soccer ball, was hidden under leaves and nearly missed. Their backyard garden, using raised beds, deer fencing, hay layering, and compost from Newport News' leaf collection, consistently produced oversized crops.
