In December 2024, Peru exported 2,614 tons of garlic, generating revenues of US$7.5 million. This is 19% more volume and 62% more value than in December 2023. The average price of garlic grew by 36% to $2.87 per kilogram.
This performance contributed to a recovery in the annual cumulative, which closed at 14,327 tons and $41.1 million, i.e. a 24% decrease in volume but a 29% increase in value. This year, production was impacted by adverse weather conditions at the beginning of the year. However, production has improved significantly since October. Shipments in the last quarter led to a partial recovery, but the positive annual balance was only possible thanks to the higher prices.
Most of the garlic exported (99%) was in its fresh presentation, totaling 4,532 tons worth $7.4 million, at an average price of $2.85 per kilogram.
Mexico was the main destination for Peruvian garlic in December 2024, with a 72% share equivalent to 1,629 tons worth $5.4 million and an average price of $3.32 per kilogram. Other importers included the United States, with a 19% share, Ecuador, Australia, and Poland, each with different volumes and values. Australia stood out with the highest average price ($5.08 per kilogram).
In December 2024, 24 Peruvian exporters participated in the garlic market, demonstrating the diversity and capacity of the Peruvian agricultural sector in exporting this product.
