Egypt has emerged as Europe's second-largest exporter of fresh vegetables and fruits for the export season spanning from September 2023 to August 2024, delivering 917,000 tons, marking a 7% growth compared to the previous year, as per EU data. Citrus fruits were at the forefront of this export surge, with a total of 500,000 tons, reflecting an 8% increase. Following citrus, sweet potatoes were exported at 117,000 tons, onions at 94,600 tons, and grapes at 58,000 tons.
Potatoes also showcased a robust performance, with exports surpassing 400,000 tons, benefiting from production challenges in key European markets. However, Egyptian onion exports witnessed a decline to 92,000 tons in 2024, a decrease from 135,000 tons in 2023, attributed to a six-month export ban spanning from October 2023 to April 2024. The export portfolio also included carrots, lemons, garlic, beans, mangoes, peppers, strawberries, and watermelons.
