Citrus producers protest Turkish embargoes, citing economic and sector-wide impacts

Despite the Ministry of Agriculture's reports denying any disease outbreak, Mehmet Bicen from the Citrus Producers Committee has highlighted the economic struggles confronting both citrus growers and traders. Through a social media announcement, Bicen rallied for support against the embargoes Turkey has imposed, which pose a threat to the sector's viability and employment stability.

He stated, "Thoughts on the Protest of Citrus Growers" - "In recent days, citrus producers have been facing significant challenges due to the embargoes imposed by Turkey." This situation underscores the importance of sustaining robust economic and social relations with Turkey to safeguard the agricultural sector, which is integral to the country's economy.

Bicen emphasized that the embargoes impact not just the citrus community but ripple through various societal sectors, stressing the importance of unity and solidarity between the peoples of the two regions. He advocated for open dialogue, collaborative projects, and mutual problem-solving to navigate the agricultural sector's challenges.

The protest by citrus producers seeks to protect their rights and spotlight the broader societal issue, urging a reevaluation of the relationship between Turkey and Northern Cyprus for mutual benefit. Bicen concluded with a call to action for collective effort and solidarity to surmount these challenges, aiming for a prosperous future with a robust agricultural sector.
