Hortifrut ships blueberries to China via port of Chancay, reducing transit time by 10 days

Hortifrut, a player in the global berry market, has successfully completed its inaugural shipment of blueberries to China, utilizing the Port of Chancay. This development marks a noteworthy enhancement in Peru's export logistics, particularly benefiting the agro-industry sector. The shipment, which took 23 days to reach its destination, signifies a 10-day improvement over the traditional 33-day transit time. This achievement underscores Hortifrut's dedication to enhancing operational efficiencies and logistics capabilities, positioning itself as a pioneer in leveraging this new strategic export route from Peru.

The shipment comprised 32 containers of berries, dispatched on the Xin Shanghai 150W vessel, with 17 containers headed to Shanghai and 15 to Hong Kong. Originating from the Chao district in Virú province, La Libertad, the shipment was primarily composed of the Tasty variety, noted for its superior quality and flavor, catering to the high demand in international markets. This logistical milestone is expected to bolster the dynamism of Peru's agricultural sector, providing a significant boost to the country's export capabilities to Asia.

Fernando Méndez, General Manager of Hortifrut Peru, expressed satisfaction with this logistical achievement, highlighting the Port of Chancay's role in optimizing export times and enhancing the agricultural sector's prospects. Bobby Yavari, CEO of Hortifrut APAC, emphasized the importance of fruit quality and the port's contribution to maintaining optimal conditions for their products en route to global markets. With approximately 15% of Peruvian berry shipments currently directed to China, the sector anticipates a marked increase in exports by 2025, driven by modern infrastructure developments like the Port of Chancay and the expanding dynamics of international trade.
