Brazilian grape exports drop 24% in 2024 despite strong external demand

Brazilian grape exports in 2024 experienced production setbacks due to rains in the São Francisco Valley (PE/BA) during the first quarter. Despite this, exports performed well, with Comex Stat data indicating a total shipment volume of 58,900 tons, marking a 24% decrease from 2023.

Industry stakeholders view this result positively, attributing it to robust external demand which mitigated further declines. Issues in competing countries allowed for extended export agreements, enhancing remuneration. This outcome was also influenced by strategies focused on preserving commercial partnerships.

In December 2024, Brazil exported 15,160 tons of grapes. This was a 12% decrease from November 2024 but represented a 39% increase over December 2023. The decrease from November aligns with typical seasonal patterns but was less pronounced than the previous year, thanks to strong external demand and the delayed start of the Chilean grape season.

Looking ahead to early 2025, the trend indicates reduced shipments, confined to sustaining extended contracts as there is no immediate forecast for production recovery. Discussions regarding the potential opening of the Chinese market are anticipated to commence this semester.
