Spanish fruit and vegetable exports to the USA stand at 29,663 tons, 0.2% of the total

Up to November 2024, Spain exported 29,663 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables worth 84.3 million euros to the United States, which accounts for 0.2% of its total exports, which stood at 10.9 million tons and 15,852 million euros. Spanish exports to the US are led by garlic, cucumber, and onions.

From January to November 2024, Spain exported to the US 17,338 tons of garlic for 67.5 million euros, 1,865 tons of cucumber for 3.7 million euros, and 1,562 tons of onions worth 1.5 million euros, according to statistics from the Customs and Excise Department processed by Fepex.

Mandarins ranked fourth with 1,023 tons and 1.1 million euros, followed by kaki with 671 tons and 1.3 million euros, and table grapes, with 499 tons and 1.7 million euros.

According to Fepex, the United States only accounts for 0.2% of Spain's total exports. It ranks 20th among the destination countries, which means that, as a whole and at the sectoral level, Spain would not be terribly affected by the tariffs the US could impose on community productions. At the individual level, however, these tariffs would harm companies that have already made investments and plans to export to this country.

Mexico is the United States' main supplier of fruits and vegetables, with 11.4 million tons in 2023, accounting for 50% of the 22.7 million tons of fruits and vegetables imported by the US that year.

According to FAO data, the United States is also the world's third-largest leading producer of fruit and vegetables, with 68.7 million tons, only behind China with 781.5 million tons and India with 221 million tons.
