Russia increases imports of Kazakh onions, cabbage, and tomatoes amid record harvest

According to the Rosselkhoznadzor press service, Russia notes an increase in the volume of Kazakh fruits and vegetables imported.

  • Cabbage import volumes increased by 1.5 times, to about 30,000 tons.
  • Tomatoes - by 1.2 times, to almost 20,000 tons.
  • Carrots - by 15%, to 15,000 tons.

In particular, the import of onions from Kazakhstan by the end of 2024 increased 1.3 times over the year, from 90,000 tons to about 140,000 tons.

In addition, in January 2025, the growth was already over 89%, from 4,600 tons to 8,600 tons.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan reported a record onion harvest in the country, over 1 million tons, which significantly exceeds the population's needs. In early December, the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan said that farmers should be allowed vegetable exports to the Russian Federation, which has a demand for this product. The Ministry of Agriculture was instructed to study how much can be shipped.

Russia is also recording an increase in the volume of imported Kazakh watermelons and melons.
