Brazil's seedless mini watermelon exports commenced robustly in 2025, achieving record volumes and revenues. Data from Comex Stat reveals over 24,000 tons were exported in January, marking a 9% rise from December and an 88% increase compared to January 2024. Export revenue exceeded $14 million (FOB) for the month, a 68% increase from the previous year.
This represents the peak January export volume and revenue in Comex Stat's records since 1997. The rise is attributed to reduced production in Central American suppliers like Costa Rica, Honduras, and Panama, impacted by adverse weather and agricultural challenges. Fresh Plaza reports these countries have reduced cultivation efforts.
Shipments for the 2024/25 season (Aug–Jan) are already 35% higher than the previous cycle. This trend suggests exports may continue robustly, with potential growth ahead.
