Uzbekistan eyes $60M export potential to Kuwait in agriculture and food sectors

At the invitation of Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Sabah, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is paying an official visit to Kuwait on February 17-18.

The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) has analyzed key aspects of Uzbekistan-Kuwait trade relations over the past eight years, highlighting trade dynamics, key export and import categories, and future cooperation opportunities.

Trade between Uzbekistan and Kuwait has shown positive growth but still holds untapped potential. In 2024, Uzbekistan exported $0.2 million worth of food products, including fruits and vegetables, to Kuwait.

According to CERR estimates, there is significant potential for increasing exports in the processed agricultural sector. Specific opportunities include:

  • Processed agricultural products, dried fruits, fresh vegetables, and melons – up to $31 million
  • Onions, shallots, garlic, and other bulb vegetables – up to $29 million

This indicates promising prospects for expanding Uzbekistan's export portfolio to Kuwait, with opportunities for re-export to other Gulf countries.
