Kyrgyzstan significantly increased its banana imports in 2024, purchasing 36,993.5 tons worth $27.02 million. This is a sharp rise compared to 2023, when the country imported 28,543.4 tons valued at $18.65 million, according to data from the National Statistics Committee.
The majority of bananas were imported from Ecuador, Kyrgyzstan's primary supplier. In 2024, imports from Ecuador reached 32,387.9 tons, amounting to $23.03 million—31% more than in 2023, when 24,737.2 tons were imported for $14.7 million. The average purchase price of Ecuadorian bananas for Kyrgyzstan was $711 per ton.
- Besides Ecuador, other major suppliers of bananas to Kyrgyzstan in 2024 included:
- China – 2,288.2 tons worth $1.47 million (compared to 5 tons worth $2,000 in 2023).
- Russia – 1,757.7 tons worth $1.97 million (compared to 3,123.6 tons worth $3.35 million in 2023).
- Kazakhstan – 421.8 tons worth $467,700 (compared to 625.4 tons worth $566,500 in 2023).
- Turkey – 73.5 tons worth $36,700 (compared to 52.2 tons worth $26,100 in 2023).
- India – 64.2 tons worth $50,000 (no imports from India were recorded in 2023).
