Brazil's Tahiti lime exports hit record despite citrus canker threat and falling domestic prices

Brazil's Tahiti lime exports hit a record in 2024 and continued strong into January 2025. Comex Stat reports shipments of 17.15 thousand tonnes, an 18.1% rise from January 2024, with revenue reaching US$ 14.826 million, a 13.4% increase. February forecasts suggest a downturn in export volumes due to smaller fruit sizes and hardened skins. The spread of citrus canker, thriving in warm, humid conditions, poses a threat to producers by hindering the export of contaminated fruit.

Domestically, lime prices, initially high at harvest start, fell in late February. A 27.2 kg box was priced at approximately US$ 5.11 (R$ 26.59) this week (Feb. 17-21), down 8.94% from the previous week, due to lower fruit quality affecting exports and increasing local supply.

In the orange sector, Pera variety prices saw a slight rise, with a 40.8 kg box at about US$ 19.62 (R$ 101.83), up 0.88% from the prior week.
