Vietnam's exports maintain a competitive edge in the Dutch market due to tariff reductions under the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), as reported by the Vietnam Trade Office in the Netherlands.
Trade Counsellor Vo Thi Ngoc Diep highlighted that the Netherlands is Vietnam's largest European investor and second-largest export destination. Conversely, Vietnam ranks among the top Asian trading partners of the Netherlands and is within its 20 largest goods suppliers.
The Netherlands, a key logistics hub in Europe, serves as a primary entry point for Vietnamese exports into the EU. It is recognized as a transit point for products such as fruits and vegetables.
Vietnam's agricultural sector benefits notably from the EVFTA. Key exports like seafood, rice, fruits, and vegetables have enjoyed preferential tariffs since the agreement's inception.
Between 2020 and 2022, Vietnam's export growth to the Netherlands was robust, with a notable increase in 2022. Fruits and vegetables rose by 48%.
Despite this trend, the Netherlands and the EU present demanding markets with strict regulations. Vietnamese businesses must adhere to these standards to secure market presence. Compliance with EU safety, sustainability, and environmental standards is increasingly necessary. Additionally, aligning packaging and labeling with Dutch consumer preferences, including clear usage instructions, is essential.
According to the trade office, bilateral trade between Vietnam and the Netherlands reached nearly 13.8 billion USD in 2024, marking a 26.3% annual increase. Vietnam's exports to and imports from the Netherlands surged to nearly 13 billion USD and 784 million USD, respectively.
