German BLE week 8:

'Presence of Spanish cucumbers apparently reduced'

Spanish cucumber deliveries outweighed Dutch ones. Belgian deliveries were supplemented; in Munich, a few Greek deliveries were also available. Availability was limited overall, with the presence of Spanish loads in particular apparently reduced as they were tied up in retail promotions last week. According to the BLE, it was therefore not always possible to meet demand, causing prices to continue to rise.

However, the price increases then led to somewhat more cautious demand, causing some traders to lower their increased demands again. In Munich, the Greek loads were quite popular due to their low prices and quickly sold out by the weekend. In Berlin, a fairly wide price range was established, with almost daily fluctuations. The first produce from Papenburg is already expected in Hamburg this week. In the mini cucumber segment, Spanish, Dutch, and Turkish imports were available. Marketing was relatively calm. Here, too, prices trended upwards in some cases, which slowed sales.

Apples
As in the previous weeks, domestic products formed the basis. Demand was not particularly strong, the low temperatures had limited the storage options.

Pears
Italian Santa Maria and Abate Fetel as well as Turkish Santa Maria continued to dominate. In addition to Williams Christ, Rosemarie was now also available among the South African imports.

Table grapes
Deliveries from South Africa dominated the scene, flanked by inflows from Namibia and Peru. The quality was generally convincing. Nevertheless, customer response was rather restrained. As a result, discounts were offered here and there.

Oranges
Spanish loads continued to set the tone, with mainly Lane Late and Navelate available. Italian Moro and Tarocco dominated the blood orange segment. The low temperatures had a positive influence on demand.

Small-fruited citrus fruits
Spanish offers apparently predominated. In terms of quantity, Israeli Orri followed, ahead of Turkish Murcott.

Lemons
Spanish and Turkish loads apparently predominated. In terms of quality, there was nothing to complain about overall, and business was conducted calmly.

Bananas
Supply and demand were fairly well-balanced. However, business was relatively inconsistent.

Cauliflowers
Italian deliveries dominated the market, supplemented by Spanish produce. In addition, French supplies were available in some markets.

Lettuce
Head and colored lettuce came from Belgium, Italy, and France. Only Spanish loads of iceberg lettuce were available. The low temperatures slowed down the turnover so the sellers had to lower their prices if they wanted to avoid larger surpluses.

Tomatoes
A wide range of products was available, although availability had been somewhat limited. As a rule, demand could be met without difficulty. Nevertheless, price increases were observed.

Sweet peppers
Spanish loads continued to dominate the market; they were mainly flanked by Turkish imports. Availability was not too extensive. Nevertheless, demand could be met in most cases.
