Due to rising potato prices during the off-season, Kazakhstan has started importing potatoes to help stabilize the domestic market.
According to the Ministry of Trade and Integration, imported potato supplies will help balance the market and ensure the product remains accessible to consumers. Experts believe that increasing the supply of potatoes will ease price pressure and make the product more affordable for the population.
Additionally, Kazakhstan continues to release vegetable reserves. So far, over 53,000 tons have been sold from the 156,900 tons stored in stabilization funds.
Authorities are also strengthening control over price markups on essential food products. Since the beginning of the year, 842 retail stores have faced administrative penalties for exceeding the allowed price markup.
