In February, Peru exported 11,712 tons of fresh bananas for $9.26 million, i.e. 19% less volume and 23% less value over the same month last year. The average price per kilogram declined by 4% and stood at $0.79. This trend was mainly influenced by lower demand from the Netherlands and the United States, which together reduced their purchases by approximately $2 million.
Peru exported its bananas to 17 markets. The Netherlands remained the main destination with a 31% share. However, the volume exported to this market decreased by 22%, reaching 3,824 tons worth $2.88 million. The average price fell 3% to $0.75 per kilogram. The United States followed with a 23% share and 2,483 tons. Exports to this destination fell by 12% in volume and 23% in value, as the average price stood at $0.85 per kilogram, i.e. 12% less than in the previous year.
Panama ranked third, with 1,271 tons worth $952,188. The volume exported to this destination decreased by 3% but the value increased by 3% as the average price increased by 6%, standing at $0.75 per kilogram.
