Sunny weather benefits watermelons

Alongside the classic elongated striped watermelons, which have been on the market since last month, the seedless black watermelons have just arrived at Agence Laparra. Antoine Godard-Durand reports on the start of the season.

"At the moment, we have Mauritanian striped watermelon in boxes on the market, and we are offering Senegalese black watermelon in size 2." The main difference between the two products is that the black watermelon is lighter and seedless. "The campaign on the French market for this origin should last until the end of March. From April onwards, the Spanish watermelon season will begin, with the Almeria area first, followed by the Murcia region in June."

While the winter produce season is in its final part, especially for citrus fruits, our watermelon, usually very popular during the summer for its refreshing taste, is already selling well. "The demand for watermelon was good last week, thanks to the sunny weather." Prices for black watermelon size 2 are around €2 [2.19 USD], while boxed watermelons are around €1.20/1.30 [1.31/1.42 USD].
