Florence, 12- 14 December 2025

Castanea Expo 2025 to spotlight future of Italian chestnut production

Castanea Expo 2025, the first national exhibition dedicated to the world of the chestnut tree and its fruits, is the new project of the Firenze Fiera exhibition center, to be held from December 12 to 14 at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, Italy. A new event dedicated to the chestnut, from its cultivation to the transformation of chestnut flour into the famous gluten-free flour, its use in confectionery, gastronomy, homemade beer, and innovative products. This crop is an excellent source of health and wellness thanks to its content of complex carbohydrates, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium.

The event has a scientific committee made up of institutions, research bodies, and economic and cultural realities committed to the chestnut sector as an economic, social, and environmental ecosystem. This is an opportunity not to be missed for the implementation of a new phase of recovery, increase, and promotion of the Italian heritage of the chestnut tree in its main expressions: traditional and innovative chestnut plantations, with the aim of increasing the production of the 'Castanea Sativa', now appreciated and in demand in Italy and abroad.

Agronomy, technologies, processing plants, gastronomy and wood production, patents, the network of museums, the network of mills, sustainable and experiential tourism, and meetings with distributors and buyers will be the themes of a comprehensive tour of the sector.

"From 12 to 14 December, Castanea Expo will once again become the ideal stage for the presentation and promotion of agri-food products, a source of pride for many municipalities and mountain resorts in Tuscany and other Italian regions, focusing on development, innovative technology, enhancement of the territory, green tourism and sustainability," said Lorenzo Becattini, president of the Firenze Fiera, Fortezza da Basso, "which will be added to our portfolio of exhibitions directed 2025 alongside Didacta Italia and MIDA (International Handicrafts Exhibition)."

"Castanea Expo," says Massimo Seragnoli, the exhibition's project manager, "is a three-day national and European networking and business event that will present new agronomic practices, technological solutions for the management of chestnut groves, crop processing plants, and new products for healthy and natural food. One area will be entirely dedicated to chestnut wood and its applications in construction and furnishing."

The event, which takes place every two years, is aimed at operators in the sector and is open to the public by appointment, with free entry. In Italy, 15 chestnut and marron products have received European recognitions such as the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) or the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication).

All of these recognitions attest to the quality and specific geographical origin of the products, promoting local traditions and assuring consumers of their authenticity. In addition, there are Consorzi di tutela (Consortia for the Protection of Local Ecotypes) and voluntary associations throughout the country that promote local ecotypes and valuable products.
