EU apple campaign boosts demand and trade ties in Egypt

Mirosław Maliszewski, President of the Association of Polish Fruit Growers (ZSRP), engaged with the Egyptian Gazette as part of the "Time for Apples from Europe" initiative, targeting the Egyptian market. The campaign, now in its final year, aims to enhance the presence of European apples internationally, including in Egypt.

In the interview, Maliszewski detailed the campaign's influence on the fruit trade between Europe and Egypt, highlighting benefits for Egyptian importers and challenges for European exporters. He noted, "The 'Time for Apples from Europe' campaign has had a huge impact on the perception of European apples in Egypt." Promotional activities have increased consumer awareness and trust in European apples, driven by their quality and ecological benefits.

Reflecting on the campaign's achievements, Maliszewski emphasized the establishment of new business contacts and strengthened market position. He acknowledged the need for ongoing improvements in export conditions and overcoming logistical barriers. The campaign has laid a foundation for further cooperation, although continued efforts are necessary to maintain supply continuity and promote ecological production.

Discussing market changes, Maliszewski observed increased openness to European apples in Egypt. He stated that a robust network of business contacts and importer trust has been established, viewing European apples as a premium product. The expectation is for this trend to persist post-campaign, with European exporters leveraging established contacts and consumer trust to continue market activities.

To sustain market presence after the campaign, Maliszewski suggested ongoing brand awareness efforts, trade missions, and communication with local importers. Consumer education through media and sales networks remains essential. Maintaining product quality and adapting to market needs will be crucial for a long-term presence in Egypt. Dialogue with Egyptian industry institutions will support trade stability and problem-solving.

European apples, particularly Polish ones, are noted for their quality and taste, appealing to Egyptian consumers. Compliance with EU standards ensures high-quality production and environmental protection. The durability of Polish apples supports long-distance transport. Post-campaign, media engagement, tastings, and distribution network development will be vital to sustaining European apples' market presence.
