Yami Fruits, led by Romanian entrepreneurs, is constructing a processing and packaging facility in Şoimus commune, Hunedoara county. The initiative is funded by the Just Transition scheme, targeting regions impacted by decarbonization, as reported by Ziarul Financiar.
Romania's blueberry and forest fruit production has expanded rapidly. However, outdated classifications by the statistics office hinder comprehensive national data collection, despite county-level data being available. Over 6,000 tons of berries are harvested annually in Romania, with 85% exported.
Ciprian Virgil Munteanu, an economist and associate at Yami Fruits, stated, "We want to build a hall for sorting, processing, and packaging fruit in 250-gram and 500-gram pots. The product is perishable, so we need to sort the fruit before packaging."
The company, controlled by Munteanu with 60% shares, reported a turnover of $6.5 million in 2023, a 66% increase from the previous year, with a net profit of $157,000.
