Colombia's blueberry sector is developing rapidly, and according to estimates from the Agricultural Rural Planning Unit (Upra), the area devoted to this activity, which currently stands at 650 hectares, could increase by 669.23% to around 3,000 to 5,000 hectares by 2026. This growth projection is based on the potential of new cultivation areas in Antioquia, Cauca, Eje Cafetero, Nariño, and the regions of Bogotá and Boyacá.
Thanks to its unique climate, Colombia can grow blueberries all year round, which could position the country as an important player in the world market. Export figures already show a positive trend: In 2024, Colombia exported 628,235 kilos of blueberries worth $3.3 million, according to Dane data. Exports are expected to increase thanks to the increase in cultivated area and the country's product quality. This would strengthen Colombia's role as a supplier in key markets such as the US, Europe, and Asia.
Colombia's year-round production capacity allows it to supply markets in the counter-season, giving it a strategic advantage that differentiates it from other producers such as Chile, Mexico, and Peru.
