This year, apple orchards of the famous Aport variety will be planted in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan. The 2025-2028 project aims to grow 25,000 saplings and plant apple orchards over an area of 110 hectares. The project has been fully funded, and staff from the Kazakh Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute have already begun implementing the Roadmap.
"We are confident that reviving this variety will be a significant step in developing domestic horticulture and will enable us to provide Kazakhstanis with high-quality and delicious fruits," said representatives from the Institute.
The first harvest from the new orchards is expected to be obtained after eight years. Scientists, taking modern agricultural technologies into account, are confident that the yield will reach up to 57.7 kg per tree in the initial years, with mature trees producing up to 100 kg.
The "Aport" apple is renowned not only for its exceptional taste but also for its long shelf life, making it easy to transport to distant regions. With the use of modern technologies, it is possible to preserve "Aport" apples until the summer months.
Experts believe that the revival of the "Aport" variety will open new opportunities for the development of farmsteads and attract investment into the agricultural sector.
