Cambodian fruits are gaining traction among Chinese consumers, attributed to taste and nutritional aspects. Four fruit varieties—banana, mango, longan, and coconut—have received approval for the Chinese market, indicating evolving trade relations between Cambodia and China.
Cambodian bananas, noted for sweetness and quality, were the first fruit exported directly to China in 2019 under the Belt and Road Initiative. This marked a milestone in agricultural trade between the nations. In May 2021, the inaugural shipment of fresh Cambodian mangoes reached China. Known for their thin skin, thick flesh, and sweet flavor, these mangoes offer Chinese consumers a novel option.
Cambodia's longans entered the Chinese market in 2022. Valued for their large size and aromatic sweetness, they have gained market traction. Data shows that 12,400 tons of Palin longans were exported to China from Cambodia in the first 11 months of 2024.
In 2023, fresh coconuts became the fourth Cambodian fruit approved for export to China, reinforcing agricultural trade and highlighting the expanding cooperation between the two countries.
