Sam Manujith- The Avolution

“In an average year we will market between 2.6-3 million avocados"

Australian marketing company The Avolution started out marketing avocados for two growers in 2012, they now market fruit for over 100 growers and are still growing.

"We aim to provide fully transparent deals; a reliable team and the innovations have taken us to where we are now. We also have a fully fledged domestic program and expansive export business, which are the most important components for the growers," said Sam Manujith, International Sales & Category Manager. "In an average year, we will market between 2.6-3 million avocados; this is split 80-20% between the Hass and Shepard varieties."

"We started the year with a lot of rain in the Queensland region, but fortunately, we weren't affected too much other than some logistics issues due to the recent flooding. Fortunately for all of us, Cyclone Alfred didn't do any damage to the avocados."

The domestic market is up and down. "Some years, we will have more than enough and then some we don't. For example, last year, we didn't have enough fruit for the domestic supply, so the New Zealand fruit had a good year, filling the gaps, and some Chilean fruit too. Avocados Australia is working on this by increasing the consumption in a way of develops the food service and new ways of using avocados.

Avolution's main export markets are Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the Middle East, India, Japan, and Thailand.

The Avolution was very involved in opening the Indian market for Australian avocados. "This process was disturbed by not having enough fruit in the last few months and we are hoping to kick start with Queensland Hass season starting in late April/early May."

Australia is seeking entry for its avocados into China, there has already been an MOU between Avocados Australia and Shanghai Huizan International to commence exports as soon as access is granted. The Avolution is not involved with this, but they did participate in the study tour in China and sent avocados to the 7th edition of CIIE.
