Italy: Bejo Italia celebrates 25th anniversary

On 22nd June 2013, Bejo Italia, the Italian branch of Bejo Zaden, the historic Dutch seed company based in Warmenhuizem, celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Bejo's Italian headquarters.

Bejo Italia was founded in 1988 by Angelo Tumedei, who later became the manager of the branch and the director of the Italian research centre, and Piet Barten, co-owner of the multinational.

During the 25 years of activity, Bejo Italia changed three headquarters to deal with the increasing needs of the company and currently has 60 employees.

All employees and collaborators took part to the anniversary celebrations, as well as the directors of European plants Piet Barten, John Peter Schipper (Bejo Zaden's CEO), Martin Van Der Voort (sales manager of Bejo Zaden), Christine Jong and Bart Kuin (West EU area manager for Bejo Zadem), Bert Schrjver (research director for Bejo Zaden) and a number of colleagues from the Dutch parent company.

A tour of the Italian headquarters, including the offices inaugurated in 2004, the research centre and the research and experimental fields, was organised during the morning.

It was also announced that Bejo Italia bought a further 55 hectares of land close to the headquarters for research purposes, so it now owns a total of 105 hectares.

Celebrations continued in the evening at the Castle of Ribano, on the hills near Savignano sul Rubicone (Emilia Romagna), where all of the guests had dinner followed by live music.

There were different speeches during dinner - Leonardo Bassi, director of the Italian branch, thanked all employees and collaborators for their help throughout the years, Piet Barten recalled the creation of Bejo Italia and took the chance to celebrate Angelo Tumedei's 25 years in Bejo Italia, John Peter Schipper congratulated the Italian colleagues for their work and Christine and Bart Kuin presented Leonardo Bassi with an award.

"The celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Bejo Italia were the perfect chance to organise the West European Meeting of Bejo Zaden in Italy, an important opportunity to confront ourselves with our European colleagues. During the week prior to 22nd July, we visited some of our clients in the area such as Vivaio Garattoni and Cooperativa Aprfruit to show our colleagues part of the Italian fruit and vegetable chain," explained Leonardo Bassi (in the photo below).

"Bejo Italia grew constantly since its creation both in terms of turnover and as a research centre. The latter is now working together with the parent company on red chicory, fennel, brassicas, onions and carrots to introduce new varieties each year."

Bejo Italia wishes to thank all the clients that believed in Bejo products and that enabled the company to grow and improve the quality of their products.
