Cuban citrus company in recovery

A sustained compliance with the production plans over the last marketing years on the production of orange, grapefruit, charcoal and the enhancement of organic crops have marked the good path that Sola farming company, located in the municipality of Sierra de Cubitas, has taken.

The diversification of crops seeks to deliver greater amounts of fruits, root crops, leafy vegetables and grains, along with the planting this year of 100 hectares of citrus fruits, including lemon.

The intention of citrus growers in the municipality of Sierra de Cubitas – says Raúl Bárcenas González, general manager of this company - is to maintain the sustained growth of the past few years, aside from developing other crops and installing a mini-industry.

The above-mentioned company is the only one in the country that provides organic crops for the making of juices and essences. These products are also sold abroad, thanks to which the company has managed to offer a better attention to workers.

Even when trees at Sola farming company are among the oldest in Cuba's citrus groves, their sustained care using organic fertilizers has made possible to annually grow some 6,000 MTs of orange and grapefruit.
