Ginger may be answer for prostate and ovarian Cancer

Ginger may be an answer for prostate and ovarian cancer, a recent study shows from the University of Michigan. According to Herbal Legacy, the history of the medicinal use for ginger goes back to the ancient times. The Chinese, Japanese, Greeks, Italians, and later the Americans were prescribing it for daily use even though a person was healthy, as well as for better digestion, aphrodisiac, painful menstruation, tooth aches, flu symptoms and hangover. The Ayurvedic Indians were comparing the ginger as a healing and a spiritual gift of God.

Now science has an answer why. According to the research team of the University of Michigan, ginger may be an answer for prostate and ovarian cancer. Ginger contains bioactive phenolic compounds and non-volatile pungent compounds – gingerols, paradols, shogaols and gingerones. The gingerols and phytochemicals are available compounds in abundance in the fresh ginger root. The researchers add in their study that the ginger displays a role of an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer. They mention that fruits and vegetables must be eaten along with ginger every day in order to help reducing the risk of cancer.

The study procedure was by feeding mice with tumours for 8 weeks. The tumours were significantly reduced during that period of time, by having a tumour ‘cell suicide’ when came in contact with the compound. Natural Society adds that this kind of ‘suicide’ happens when cancer cells react to the ginger, they attack each other. The experiment was repeated three times and the results were always the same. In the study, it also measured body toxicity, and the results were that ginger doesn’t display any toxic behaviour, even if taken in high doses.

There were follow up opinions from different people on the study on Medical News Today. A physician with 40 years of clinical experience said that ginger is effective as administered, and he has been able to cure throat cancers, but he’s doubtful about the use in late stage. A cancer survivor by the name of Mary said that she did an experiment with herself by taking ginger root along with chemotherapy, and she was able to reduce the cancer to ‘the safe zone’. When she stopped taking it and went only with the chemo, the results were ‘nothing could be done.’ She was able to cure herself only with the root. It didn’t pass without skeptics, as someone said that the trials on mice were stopped due to giving big amounts of the extract, which caused an intense pain. Another doctor was a skeptic, saying that none of these studies can be proved.

According to Natural Society, the results of the study were presented in a session with the American Association for Cancer Research, stating that in just eight weeks 56% of the prostate cancer cells were killed, leaving the healthy prostate cells alone. The American Cancer Society admitted – more than 15% of men, and more than 20,000 American women will be diagnosed with cancer this year. But ginger may be an answer for prostate and ovarian cancer, and expensive chemo treatments may not be needed in the future.
