"The Chilean market, a new destination for our mango"

Guatemala's mango harvest will decrease by 20 to 30%

On Sunday, February 24, the first shipment of mango to the United States left Guatemala. "We started our Ataulfo mango harvesting and packing operations in week 8 and the first containers were sent on Sunday, February 24th. In week 9 we will start harvesting and packing the Tommy Atkins variety," stated Eddy Martinez, from the DFT Agrotropic company.

The Association of Mango Producers and Exporters of Guatemala has estimated that this year's harvest will decrease by 20 to 30% when compared to last year's harvest.

"The climatic conditions have not been the best and we have seen erratic blooms in the field. In many farms the flowering and harvest will be delayed 2-3 weeks. Guatemala will export approximately 4.5 million boxes of 4 kilos in the 2019 season," said Eddy Martinez.

80% will go to the US market and 20% to the European market. "This year, our company will start exports to the Chilean market, a new destination for fresh mango from Guatemala."
