"This year, the apple production volume in Qingyang, Gansu, increased around 30%-40% in comparison with the same period last year. However, in comparison with 2017, the apple production volume maintained the same level. The main reason for the additional production volume is the high prices of last year. Farmers expanded the overall surface area devoted to apple plantation. Furthermore, this year the damage of natural disasters was relatively light. The weather conditions were stable and sun light was abundant during this production season. The most recent data shows that the overall surface area devoted to apple plantation in Qingyang already reached 118 thousand hectares this year." This is according to Deng Jiangtao, CEO of Gansu Maitian Network Technology Co., Ltd.

Qingyang apples
"There are quite a lot of small and medium apples this year because the overall production volume increased. The price is also lower than last year. The price dropped by as much as 1.5-2 yuan [0.21-0.28 USD] per 0.5 kg. The purchase price of first-grade apples in Qingyang is currently around 2.8 yuan [0.40 USD] per 0.5 kg. The purchase price of second-grade apples in Qingyang is currently around 2 yuan [0.28 USD] per 0.5 kg. As for our retail markets, the apples travel a long distance this year as they are mainly sold in the coastal areas of southeast China and east China."

Apple selection
"Our apples come from our orchards in Qingyang, Gansu. This is one of the best apple production areas in the entire country. The apple varieties we produce include red Fuji, Qin Crown, Yellow Marshal, and Flower Ox apples. The supply period of our apples begins every year in the middle of July and continues until May in the subsequent year. We keep our apples in standardized storage facilities, which means that we can supply apples all year round."
Apple farmers select apples
"We have learned from our own market observation that the red Fuji apple is popular with Chinese consumers throughout the country. The red Fuji apple has great value as a fresh snack. This is because the red Fuji apple variety is crisp, and both sweet and sour in the right amounts. The red Fuji apple variety can be stored for a long period and is particularly well-suited for transport over long distances. While we continue to develop our share in the domestic apple market this year, we also hope to explore export opportunities in Southeast Asia, as well as Europe and America."
