Chilean blueberry exports up 38% from same time last year

IQonsulting release a crop and export report for Chilean blueberries for week 47 of 2019. According to the report, the crops remain focused in the North Zone, with the regions of Coquimbo and Valparaíso already passing the peak of volumes. The OHiggins region is increasing while the Maule and Metropolitan regions still have minor volumes.

The exports maintain an upward trend and a greater volume accumulation compared to the previous season, due to the increase observed in all regions that are entering the full-season stage. Thus, 4,356 tons have been shipped until week 46, 38% more than the previous season at the same week.

Despite the greater volume, there has not been major problems regarding the departures. In recent weeks, the maritime shipments have increased their participation with 85% of the total exports in week 46, mainly via Valparaíso port due to its normal operation and therefore better performance compared to other alternatives that continue to work part-time.

Regarding the destination markets, North America represents 70% of the shipments accumulated to date, followed by the Far East with 22% and Europe with 8%. The organic blueberries meanwhile, represent 48% of the exports up to date (week 46), reaching 2,067 tons, with North America being the main destination.
