In the winter, tomatoes are not only a key commodity in the market but also one of the purchasers’ favorites. In China, tomatoes with their red color, are associated with good fortune, therefore especially popular around the Chinese New Year.
The suppliers in China have shifted from Shandong to southern production areas such as Sichuan, Yunnan, and Fujian. Affected by the long-lasting drought and high temperatures in an earlier period, the size of crops from Yunnan this year is much smaller. Tomatoes from Sichuan have become a leading product in the winter over the past 3-4 years, which are better in quality as well as size.
The production capacity of the dahong variety in Fujian and tomatoes in Yunnan were also affected by the weather, but the market is still able to ensure normal supply.
