Staay Food Group expects the first melons from Costa Rica in week 8

Dulce melons from the Costa Rican Blue Zone

The Costa Rica season for melons is approaching again.
From week 8, Staay Food Group expects Dulce melons to be fully grown in-house again. The fruit is provided with the Rainforest Alliance quality mark for responsible cultivation. In 2015, Dulce was the first label in Costa Rica with melons with this label. The cultivation in Costa Rica takes place on five different farms and is coordinated by Staay’s local branch SFG Dulce.

Blue zone
One of the growers is in a very special location: in one of the five worldwide Blue Zones.

These are unique regions in the world where people are demonstrably older than elsewhere. Often people even get older than 100 years. The Costa Rican Blue Zone is located on the Nicoya Peninsula and is also the largest Blue Zone in the world. A beautiful and unspoilt piece of nature where this grower also grows melons for local consumption and export with extra care for his environment.

Transparency in supply
Staay Food Group expects to have plenty of supplies for this season from galia, cantaloupe, yellow and watermelons over the period from week 8 up to and including week 17. This import takes place directly from the growers to the Netherlands without external purchase.
With a DULCE melon, transparency is therefore optimal and traceability guaranteed.
