The Dutch company, Jungheinrich, will present a digital fork camera at the Innovations & Highlights 2020 press conference. This camera intelligently scans goods' and shelves' barcodes. This solution is part of the addedVIEW assistance system.
"Intelligent Scanning means greater process reliability"
This fork camera is placed on forklifts. It scans barcodes on products and storage spaces. The camera is linked to the WMS via the Jungheinrich's middleware Logistics Interface. It is, therefore, possible to check if the scanned goods are of the correct weight. If the information is accurate, the driver confirms the order on the display screen.
This increases process reliability and speeds up entry and exit. This digital fork camera should ensure common mistakes are something of the past. These kinds of errors include placing products in the incorrect place. That, while the code has been scanned at the correct place. The fork camera will also prevent goods from being placed on the wrong pallet.
Dr. Felix Riesenhuber, Head of Product Management for Assistance Systems and Modules at Jungheinrich AG, says, "Manually scanning barcodes on shelves, using paper, is quite common. Since storage locations are not immediately controlled, mistakes creep in here. This digital camera, placed on forks, helps prevent these mistakes. It also saves the time and effort it would take to rectify the mistake."
"This camera guarantees quality by dynamically adjusting its parameters. It can, therefore, be used even in situations where the light conditions are not optimal. This high-resolution camera digitally adjusts its contrast. That enables it to detect a QR code, even on the highest shelf."
addedVIEW
The addedVIEW assistance system uses multiple digital cameras. The system offers another option - a 360-degree image around the forklift. This includes a bird's eye view. This complete view allows the driver to maneuver safely and quickly in tight spaces. The system can be combined, and used in tandem with, the zoneCONTROL assistance system. This system consists of one or more stationary radio beacons. These are in constant communication with each other. They broadcast a warning if an unsafe situation is imminent.
