The frost of the last few days affected some “peripheral” regions at the heart of the French production (Baronnies, Isère, Ardèche, Nord Crau and Vaucluse). According to Raphaël Martinez of the Peach and Apricot PDO of France, this will have only a limited impact on the apricot production. “We are mostly waiting for the fruit to finish growing in order to see how the trees will react to the cold of the winter. With the temperatures from last week, we have lost some of our precocity, so on that level, we will just have a normal season. We are in close contact with the distribution actors to prepare the marketing of our fruits as best as possible. We are also focusing our efforts on the safety of our employees, by buying protective equipment to ensure the employees and consumers of the quality of our products.”
Predictions for the European harvest
“Next week, we will have a more precise vision of the volumes to come at the national level. We will also participate in exchanges to establish the predictions of the European harvest whose figures should be revealed at the end of April, or the beginning of May.”
