"Market demand far exceeds market supply"

"New harvest of Chinese blueberries enters the market"

Various kinds of fruit began to enter the Chinese market in large volumes as the weather recently warmed up for a second time. Blueberries are one of the fruits that traders keep an eye on. The new harvest has only just entered the market and consumer demand is growing every day. The market prospects look good."

Mr. Hao Bo of Honghe Xinyun Zhishang Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. recently shared his view on the current conditions in the Chinese blueberry market: "The blueberry production season officially opened in early April and the production season continues until the middle of June. The production volume per hectare is more or less the same as last year. However, the overall production volume increased because the surface area devoted to blueberry plantation expanded.

"The overall product quality is quite good this year. Some plantations suffered from snowfall earlier this year, but the overall impact is quite small. The blueberries from Yunnan have a strong competitive position in the Chinese blueberry market. Blueberries from other production areas, for example in Shandong, do not taste as good as blueberries from Yunnan. This is because the production areas in Yunnan are closer to the equator, which means that the UV-levels in the sunlight are higher. Furthermore, the weather conditions are beneficial for the growth of blueberries. The blueberries from Yunnan are ripe earlier than blueberries from other production areas, which gives them a competitive advantage as they enter the market earlier than other blueberries."

"The overall demand volume is incredibly high at the moment. Market demand far exceeds market supply. This is not the case for other fruits in the Chinese market. The price of blueberries is still quite reasonable, but this will certainly change when blueberries begin to enter the market in large volumes. However, we do not think the price will ever become a problem. The only possible problem is the ability of the market to absorb the production volume. At the moment, while the global economy is in decline, domestic market demand is sufficient to keep the market stable. The price of blueberries always falls around this time of year. That is a regular pattern. The market responds to the changes in supply volume."

"This year, for the first time since we established our company, we are selling our blueberries under our own brand name. We have made a specific design to attract even more customers. To establish an excellent and reliable brand is essential for the cultivation of trust between producer and consumer. This is as true for the Chinese market as it is anywhere else. It is important to make consumers want to come back and buy our blueberries again. We are therefore very careful in the selection of our blueberries. We only sell the highest quality, because that is the only way to gain brand recognition among consumers."
