Industry sources say that Peru exported around 118,000 tons of fresh blueberries in the 2019/2020 campaign. The United States was the main destination for fresh blueberries from Peru, acquiring 64.313 tons, representing 54.5% of the total. The mentioned berry would become the main crop for agro-export, displacing the table grape.
The August 2019 / March 2020 harvest enabled Peru to export around 118,000 tons of fresh blueberries, which represented an increase of 47.5% compared to the 80,000 tons dispatched in the previous campaign.
This was reported by the president of consultancy firm Inform@ction, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, who indicated that in the current campaign (which has just ended) shipments of fresh blueberries by Peru reached US $ 764,109,663, a growth of 27.4% compared to about US $ 600 million reached in the 2018/2019 campaign.
He indicated that the characteristic of the blueberry industry in Peru is that it registers explosive growth year after year. The blueberry is the second crop of agro-export to generate more foreign currency to the country (after table grapes).
