“The nutritional and medicinal value of asparagus is becoming known to more and more people, and the market demand is increasing year by year. On the supply side, as far as the Shijiazhuang area is concerned, there are an increasing number of local farmers who are starting to grow asparagus over recent years. The oversupply has led the market price to fall. A few years ago, when the production was low, the price of green asparagus was once as high as about 10 yuan per half a kilo, but now they are now only 3 yuan per half a kilo, which is about 1 yuan lower than the same period last year. "
"All the products in our center are free of pesticides. They are thick and firm, with very high quality. Our products have mainly been supplied to local markets, but with the increasing production, we are also looking for sales channels in other provinces and cities,” Mr. Ding said. “This vegetable is very demanding in terms of storage and transportation. If the product is not stored at the temperatures of 0-1 degrees, its shelf life is only about one week. Therefore, the timeliness of logistics has also become one of the key factors to whether the product can sell well. "
Shijiazhuang Haojun Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd. has about 100 mu of green asparagus growing center in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. “Picking and packaging are all done manually. Labor costs have been increasing over recent years, while product prices have dropped.
