The Association of Banana Producer Organizations of the Canary Islands (ASPROCAN) has signed a collaboration agreement with AUSOLAN, a company devoted to collective catering that provides services to hospitals, nursing homes and home care services across the country. As a result, free bananas from the Canary Islands will be given out to more than 11,000 people in eight autonomous regions.
Starting this week and for as long as the state of alarm in Spain remains in force, a total of five hospitals, ten nursing homes and hundreds of families receiving home care services, as well as the health personnel currently fighting the pandemic, will receive Canary bananas on their menus.
With this contribution from the Canary banana sector, Plátano de Canarias, through ASPROCAN and AUSOLAN, aims to promote the fruit's consumption,
This initiative adds to other donations channeled through ASPROCAN throughout the national territory during the Covid-19 pandemic, which have made it possible to regularly supply Canary bananas to hundreds of thousands of people across Spain. This has been done through the Spanish Federation of Food Banks, the Spanish Red Cross and collective catering companies, with over 635,000 kilos donated.
