Peru gets green light for export of Hass avocados to South Korea

Via the National Agrarian Health Service, Peru’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri) has received a green light from the South Korean Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) to start exporting Peruvian Hass avocados.

South Korea is a country with more than 50 million inhabitants, with a per capita income of more than $ 36,000, which represents a great market for producers from Lambayeque, Ancash, Ayacucho, Cusco, Apurimac, Huancavelica and Ancash, among other regions that have already started the harvest season.

The phytosanitary requirements established by the APQA for the import of avocado are very similar to those applied by other Asian countries, which mainly requires that the fruit is exported from places of production and certified balers.

The efforts to open this market have been taking place since 2013, and in September last year it was possible to sign the working protocols between both countries, and currently, the start of shipments has already been officially arranged.
