"BestMelon was inspired by our corporate mission to promote and rediscover the flavors and colors of the Mediterranean diet through the genetic improvement of varieties of the past," explains Andrea Restuccia, Product Manager for Med Hermes Vegetable Seeds.
"We have developed a fully Italian chain that starts with seeds and ends on the tables of consumers."

During this first phase, the BestMelon logo will be placed on fruits (see the sticker on the side) with a QR code providing access to additional information on the cultivation and characteristics of the product. BestMelon fruits are good, healthy, fully Italian and thoroughly checked.
The variety of reference during this phase is Dafne F1 (see photos below), suitable for early harvesting and characterized by a good shelf-life. It is a versatile variety and can be grown all over Italy providing constant organoleptic qualities.
It can be transplanted in various regions over three months and is therefore harvested during three months. This means consumers can find the fruits between early April and early July. The main characteristics of Dafne F1 melons are:
- Crunchy flesh of a deep orange color
- High sugar level (above 15° Brix)
- Unmistakable aroma
"The idea came to us due to the increasing consumer demand for Italian produce, which is synonymous with high-quality, traceability, proximity and safety. Consumers will be able to know what there is behind the production process and the production chain will be more competitive."
The BestMelon brand is described in detail at www.bestmelon.net, where users can also find additional information on the product and leave feedback with the purpose of creating a transparent communication process between producers and consumers. "We are helping the Italy of high-quality produce grow with a project that is 100% Italian."
