Cambodian mangoes are about to enter the Chinese market

Cambodia signs mango export agreement with China

On the 9th of June, China and Cambodia signed an agreement with regard to quarantine regulations for Cambodian mango export to China. Cambodia previously obtained permission to export fresh bananas to China, and now the country is allowed to export fresh mangoes as well.

Veng Sakhon, the Cambodian Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, was present at the festive ceremony where the agreement was signed. He explained that the overall surface area devoted to mango plantation in Cambodia exceeds 124.3 thousand hectares. The annual production volume reaches 1.44 million tons. Being able to export mangoes to the Chinese market is a golden opportunity for Cambodian mango farmers. This will help the Cambodian economy and further develop agricultural villages in underdeveloped areas. 20 Cambodian companies have already applied for permission to export mangoes.

According to data from the Chinese embassy in Cambodia, the export volume of Cambodian bananas increased from 10 thousand in 2018 to 160 thousand in 2019 after Cambodia obtained permission to export bananas to China in that year. The vast majority of Cambodian export bananas are destined for the Chinese market.
