Angélique Navarro, Soldive:

“More offer than demand on the melon market”

Soldive is one of the largest producers of Charentais melons. The production sites are located in France, Spain, Senegal and Morocco. Therefore, Soldive melons are available 10 months out of 12. The company currently offers Spanish and French melons. Angélique Navarro, product manager at Soldive, explains that the melon market is complicated. “At the moment, there is more offer than demand.”

Soldive will end the sales of Spanish melons in the coming weeks. The Spanish product will still be available for about three weeks.

Impact of the coronavirus
For Soldive, the impact of the coronavirus has been rather positive. “This can be explained by the fact that we work directly with the stations. We implemented the necessary sanitary measures in order to continue to ship the melons in good conditions, thanks to the strong mobilization of our teams at the production, packing and marketing levels,” explains Angélique. As for the reopening of restaurants and the revitalization of the market, “we have not noticed any impact yet. It is too early. But we remain confident about the upcoming campaign with the small stone fruit harvests in Europe and the decrease in surfaces for melons, which could help sustain the markets.”
