On June 13, the Monte Plata Pineapple Producers Association (ASOPROPIMOPLA) finalized the process of exporting 1,600 boxes of MD-2 pineapple to Abu Dhabi. This process was facilitated and coordinated by Agri Advisories©, the Agricultural Division of Costa Rica's SOLUTEC SA's Technological Solutions. The export process took place thanks to an initiative by Elite Agro UAE LLC, which took advantage of an Etihad Airlines flight that left Costa Rica and stopped in the Dominican Republic.
Joelin Santos, the CEO of ASOPROPIMOPLA, said this was a great opportunity for the association, as it opens the doors to a market that is normally dominated by Asian producers. "We are sure that our premium fruit, which is grown with nutritional packages that complement an ideal climate and sun for this product, has the quality characteristics necessary to satisfy this market's strict requirements. We implement technical and quality protocols that guarantee importers will get a product with optimal conditions."
Emmanuel Guzman, a business advisor of ASOPROPIMOPLA, highlighted the positive receptivity of the UAE market. He also said that, given the business potential to export Dominican pineapples and other products, the airports were working to establish a permanent route to this destination.
Guillermo Jimenez, from Agri Advisories ©, highlighted the good quality of the MD-2 pineapple from the Dominican Republic. "Those of us who have been in this industry for many years are proud to see how the Dominican Republic's MD-2 pineapple has achieved the highest standards after many years of hard work. I have had the opportunity to see pineapple operations in several countries in Asia and Latin America, and I must say that the Dominican Republic's pineapple sector is doing things very well. There's no doubt this product is gaining a share of the market thanks to its excellent quality."
