Ethiopia ships first refrigerated fruits and vegetables to EU market

This weekend, Ethiopia launched its first ever shipment of refrigerated fruits and vegetables to the European market. The shipment was attended by high ranking government officials, including Transport Minister Dagmawit Moges and representatives of the Netherlands embassy in Ethiopia.

Minister Dagmawit said: “[It] is an important step to look forward and utilize the cool logistics corridor development for the export of fruit and vegetables from Ethiopia”. She added that the export of fruits and vegetables is one of the self-evident economic growth industries globally.

According to an article on ethiopianmonitor.com, the shipment of refrigerated fruits and vegetables has a paramount significance to boost the agricultural export sector and generate more foreign currency, Dagmawit added. The latest operation has involved the Dutch Flying Swans Consortium with the support of Ethiopian the Netherlands governments.
