Spain and France agree on the need to guarantee food safety in the EU

The Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, and his French counterpart, Julien Denormandie, held a virtual meeting in which they agreed on the need to guarantee food security in the European Union, support community agri-food strategies, and defend competitive and sustainable agricultural holdings, according to a statement made by the Department on Thursday.

The great convergence of both leaders on the main aspects of the future CAP and international agri-food trade was confirmed at the meeting. According to Planas, the works for its approval are very advanced, so it's possible a general agreement will be reached next October, as the German Presidency has indicated.

He also expressed his concerns about a shared problem: US tariffs on certain food products as a result of EU aid to the Airbus consortium.

Planas and Denormandie, who has been in office for almost two months, have expressed their intention to continue having a good and positive relationship between both countries.
