Jérémy Gagne, GG:

“The table grape market is better than usual”

“There is more demand for table grapes than usual on the market for this time of year. It can be explained by the fact that there are almost no stone fruits available on the market anymore, so the grapes are taking their place,” explains Jérémy Gagne of GG Sarl, a family business specialized in fruits cultivated around the Mont Ventoux.

This year, the grapes were 15 days early. “The big promotional actions are not usually organized until the first weeks of September, so the campaign was slightly complicated at the beginning. It takes time for the market to adjust.”

Weather problems
According to Jérémy, the quality of the grapes is good. “However, the black grapes have difficulty ripening. In order to ripen, they need significant thermal amplitude. And up until now, it has not been the case. The lack of rain and the high temperatures have blocked the ripening process and the black grapes are still red. They can stay like this indefinitely, but we hope for the weather to change soon.”

Range
GG specializes in seedless Centennial grapes and in the pink table grape variety Italia Rubi. “We are also lucky to have the Muscat du Ventoux in PDO,” adds Jérémy. Besides these varieties, GG currently offers the early varieties Prima and Lival, the Alphonse Lavallée and the Danlas. In the fall, the Ribol variety is also available.
