Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association

Massachusetts cranberry organization estimates small yield increase as compared to 2019

The Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association is an organization that represents over 300 cranberry growers across Massachusetts. In a statement, issued this weekend, it stated that it  is expecting close to a 2.04 million barrel crop, up just one percent from last year's harvest.

The Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association, an organization that represents over 300 cranberry growers across Massachusetts, is expecting close to a 2.04 million barrel crop, up just one percent from last year's harvest. The estimate was put forth by the USDA's Cranberry Marketing Committee.

Because of a mild winter and dry, hot summer, the state's cranberry organization will err on the conservative side in predicting how much yield in crop growers will see when they harvest fruit in a few weeks.

Enterprisenews.com reports that last year, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island produced 2,015,713 barrels, according to the committee. Relative to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service estimate of an 11 percent increase for Massachusetts this year, the cranberry committee's estimate is quite conservative.

The statistics service rated 60 percent of Massachusetts' cranberry crop in good to excellent condition in early August.
