Spanish garlic growers fear that the UK will become a backdoor for Chinese garlic after Brexit

The National Association of Garlic Producers and Traders (ANPCA) is concerned about the development of the Brexit negotiations since, depending on the future formula of the relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom once the break is final, the British Isles could become a backdoor for Chinese garlic imports.

As explained by the director of the ANPCA, Luis Fernando Rubio, "the association is not concerned about the recent agreement between the EU and China for the mutual recognition of Geographical Indications. The purple garlic designation of Las Pedroñeras can compete without any problems with its Asian counterparts, but the outcome of Brexit is another issue entirely."
